BADU Community is hosting our annual “Proud to Be……” event of learning, celebrating, honouring iconic figures and showcasing the talent of young people during Black History Month.  This year, for the month of October we will be celebrating Black History in the following areas: “Honour Them…”: Thursday 24th October a day of learning and acknowledgment. “Celebrate Them…”: Friday 25th October and Proud to Be” movement: Every day in October.

“Honour them…” a day of learning and acknowledgment.

During the event you will access different stations to get a glimpse of Black culture through our exhibition style experience.

To aid this experience there will be:

  • Story telling
  • Poetry and spoken word

Visual displays of:

  • Impactful images
  • African and Caribbean fabrics and fashion
  • Musical influences
  • Inspirational inventors

“Celebrate Them…” Friday 25th October

“Celebrate Them…”: Friday 25th October – an evening of celebration – including a fashion show, performances, cultural stalls.

During the event we will be celebrating and showcasing the talent of young people.  The evening will include inspirational performances in:

  • Singing
  • Rapping
  • Spoken words/Poetry
  • Dance
  • African drumming
  • Fashion Show (presented by Black Woman)

Due to the success and demand from last year’s event, proud to be merchandise will be on sale. This event is open to all. We hope you can join us in celebrating this empowering experience for Black History Month.

Proud 2 Be Movement

Proud to be” movement: Every day in October. 30 second – 1-minute video post for social media platforms, acknowledging what you are proud to be or have done that might not have been possible without our ancestors. 

Post a video during October of your “Proud to Be…” moments

Tag us in your post to have the opportunity to be reposted on our media platforms and shown during our celebration events. 

Posts should include:

  • Name:

How you can support

Are you able to create a display and discuss the origins and importance to Black History in the following areas:
